I began working at the UMKC School of Dentistry in 2006. One of my yearly assignments was Bonds - the alumni outreach piece for the Orthodontic Department. This piece began as a two-color, four-page newsletter. Over the years Bonds grew to become a 20-page full color piece with a donation envelope stitched into the center.
The Orthodontic Director and I left UMKC about the same time. Dr. Nickel moved on to become the head of the Orthodontic Department at the Oregon School of Health Sciences. He reached out to me and asked if I would adapt the project for his new placement. I refreshed the publication and it was renamed “Ties”. This has become my summer project ever since.
